Our fourth annual highly popular Beer & Heritage Tour is coming together. This year we move out eastwards to take in some new sites in Limburg province. Again, we have secured the expert services of archaeologist Dave Buckley to keep us well informed on this tour. We will be based for the first two nights at Hotel Ibis Brussels Centre St. Catherine and the second two at Hotel Express by Holiday Inn Hasselt. So far plans are being made for visits to Herisem Paper Mill, which can trace its origins back to 1536, where there is a working nineteenth century steam engine which will be fired up for us and we will also have a three course meal and beer tasting. We are also planning a visit to Alden Biesen Castle, at Bilzen, founded in the 11th Century by the German Order of the Teutonic Knights, which is said to be the largest castle between the French Loire River and the German Rhine. We hope to spend some time at Bokrijk open air museum which contains examples of buildings from all parts of Flanders, and a number of bars. We hope to visit the massive complex of Domein Raversijde on the coast for a meal and audio tour of the three historic sites there. There will be a guided coach tour of the Waterloo Battlefield, followed by a visit to the new Wellington Café on the site. We hope to tour the Ter Dolen Castle and Brewery, and spend some time at Alsemberg Beer Festival and we are assured that De La Senne brewery will be up and running in time for us to visit on this Tour. Arrangements for visits on this tour are still being finalised and may be subject to change.
